Fall Update

We are busy at work creating a fun lineup of fall events and fundraising to help support and enhance the school experience. Please join us at our upcoming events and help us raise funds for some great causes.

  • Monday, September 26Falcon Ridge Night at the Farmstead!
    • Students and families can arrive anytime between 4 pm-8 pm (staying as late as 9 pm). We’ll gather at 6:30 pm near the Pig Racing area for the Kiss the Pig activity and a group photo!
    •  The cost is $9.99 per person for anyone 4 and older and $1 per admission goes back to our fundraising goal.
    • Kiss the Pig! Your kids’ loose change will decide whether Mr. Miley, Mr. Huwa, or Mrs. Jenkins will KISS THE PIG at our Farmstead event. We’ll be running a “Loose Change Contest” so please send your kids to school with loose change to place into one of three buckets, essentially voting for the staff member they want to see kiss the pig. These buckets will be available at the school starting early this week as well as at the Farmstead on Monday 9/26 until 6 pm. The staff member with the most money raised (at the close of the contest, 6 pm on 9/26) will kiss a pig in front of everyone at the event!
    • All funds raised for this event will go toward the Trunk or Treat event in October.
  • October 10-24: Believe Kids Online/Catalog Fundraiser.
    • More information will be shared soon including parent packets that will go home soon in student backpacks. The ordered items will be delivered the week of December 5th. Most items in this fundraiser give the PTO 40% of proceeds back–food items provide 30% back.
  • Thursday, October 13, 7 pm, Multipurpose Room: PTO Meeting.
    • We try to keep our meetings casual, fun, and productive. We will include some light snacks and a prize for those who join us! We are also working on a Zoom option for those who are unable to join in person.
  • Friday, October 28, 6-7 pm: Falcon Ridge Trunk or Treat.
    • Our annual Halloween event is almost here! Start stocking up on candy, planning your vehicle decorations, and prepping your costumes! A volunteer sign-up sheet will be shared soon with specific ways to get involved and support the event’s success. For those planning to attend, please remember that all children must be accompanied by an adult 🙂

We are super excited about all the upcoming fun and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Looking back and to the future

This school year was a blast! We were finally able to get back together and celebrate some really fun times! To recap this school year, the PTO accomplished the following activities and initiatives:

  • Family Day at the Farmstead
  •  BelieveKids Online Fundraiser
  •  Trunk or Treat
  •  Holiday Giving Tree Wishlist
  •  Spring Festival
  •  Various teacher appreciation efforts and classroom support efforts

We want to take time to say “THANK YOU” to all of the parents and staff that stepped up to volunteer their time and energy, donate money, and support our efforts throughout the year! A big shoutout to outgoing PTO President Tara Clark, Spring Festival MVP Misty Hudon, and the all-around go-to-guy Mr. Miley, as well as so many others who truly went above and beyond this year.

As we continue through the summer and look toward next year, the PTO is going to be focusing on building a plan for success. We are a tiny (but mighty 💪) team and could use more help! In addition to overall membership involvement we are also looking specifically for:

  • Board Treasurer
  • Facebook/Communication support
  • A volunteer to routinely update our PTO bulletin board

If any of these opportunities sound like fun, or if you have any questions, please reach out!

Your un-official* 2022-23 PTO Board includes:

  • President-elect and interim Treasurer: Tiffany Hyatt
  •  Vice President: Shira Hotvedt
  •  Secretary: Leanne Fratti

The three of us have been on this board for the past few years and are seeking new energetic members to help us continue putting together fun activities and support for our school!

*We did not have an official quorum at our election meeting, so will regroup in the fall to make official selections.

Thank you and happy summer!

New School Year, New Meeting!

Hello! The 2021-22 school year has kicked off with a bang, and we’re excited to meet and get rolling with a new calendar full of exciting plans. Please join us at 3:30 pm this Thursday, September 2nd at Falcon Ridge for our first meeting of the new school year. We look forward to seeing both familiar and fresh faces, sharing ideas and goals, and ramping up for another fantastic trip around the sun at Falcon Ridge Charter School!

Meeting Minutes, 1/27/2021

Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 7pm, Zoom Meeting

Present: Shira Hotvedt, Tiffany Hyatt, Tara Clark, Emilee and Rick Wolters, and Mrs. Emily Avila.

  • Principal’s Report
    • Nothing to report
  • School Board Report
    • They sent us an email asking for our involvement and participation in the playground improvement plans. They are putting in a new basketball court, but haven’t purchased hoops or tetherballs yet. They asked if we would be willing to help with that. See discussion below.
  • President’s Report (Tara Clark)
    • Nothing to report
  • Officer’s Reports
    • Vice President (Shira Hotvedt) nothing to report
    • Secretary (Leanne Fratti) nothing to report
    • Treasurer  (Tiffany Hyatt)
      • Current checking balance is $3,910 with $1,338 of that being teacher funds. The remaining $2,570 is available. There is also a $1,831 balance in savings.
  • Fundraising:
    • Believe Kids Fundraiser
      • There is a bonus if you sign up now, but they require a certain level of success or you owe them money. We opted not to sign up now.
    • Dine for Dollars
      • Tara is having trouble getting local businesses to respond. We figure they’ve been hit hard by the pandemic and will wait to contact them again until later in the year or the fall.
    • Additional Ideas to consider
      • Krispy Kreme–sounds delicious but when we did the math we worried there wouldn’t be enough draw to get people to participate in fundraiser vs. just buying from Krispy Kreme themselves.
      • Butter Braids–again, sounds delicious. However, they don’t have great solutions for limiting touch points and potential spread of germs.
      • Opt-out fundraiser–we decided we have asked for enough recently and will reconsider this later in the year or for next fall. (We are always big fans of this idea and hope to incorporate it soon)
    • Box Tops
      • Shira to send more reminders and instructions for how to use the box tops app. Maybe monthly reminders to scan receipts or printed flyers to send home to remind parents about the app option.
    • Amazon Smiles
      • We need to encourage Amazon purchases to the “Falcon Ridge Public Charter School Parent-Teacher Organization” Smiles account. There are HUGE dollars available with this option and we all know how much Amazon is utilized these days.
  • Events:
    • No live events have been approved for the near future.
  • Playground improvement Conversation
    • See school board report above.
    • Blake Wolters has approached the PTO about getting funding to install basketball hoops for Falcon Ridge as part of his Eagle Scout Project. His parents Emily and Rick were in the meeting to help shed some light on estimated costs and what had been discussed during previous conversations with the school board.
    • With the school board’s email invitation and Blake’s offer in mind, the PTO voted unanimously to approve the use of $2,500 toward this playground improvement project (specifically basketball hoops and tetherball setups). We will coordinate with the school board to get them that money, but we will let them move forward with making the decisions. This will reduce the number of middle men and help get the school the best overall rates. We will ask that we are kept informed of decisions so that we can communicate to PTO supporters where their money is being spent. This $2,500 is almost exactly the amount of earnings raised in the Fall fundraiser with the goal of “playground improvements” in mind.
    • We also discussed the option of purchasing swingsets, but we learned that during previous ventures to invest in swingsets the PTO was warned about the high liability for injuries and the high cost of upkeep (bark) required. We opted to skip investing in this option at this time.
  • Teacher Report–Mrs. Avila
    • With Mrs. Avila in attendance, we put her on the spot and asked if there was anything she knew of that teachers are in need of or if there are any problems we can help solve. She said that thanks to the COVID funds that were distributed before the end of 2020, the classroom needs are pretty well taken care of right now. She promised to ask around and let us know if she hears of anything we might be able to help with.
  • Adjourn: 7:45

There are many great reasons to join the PTO, but more than anything, please consider participating because your children and school need you! The PTO is integral to the success of our students. It helps to support the school’s efforts to build relationships with the parents and families and provide fun social opportunities for our children. With the unknown elements of this pandemic in mind, creatively coming up with safe social opportunities for our kids may be more important than ever.

If you are interested in being considered for one of the four open board positions, please email the PTO at PTO.FRC@gmail.com. The positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. There are also endless opportunities to be involved without being a board member, so please join us for this meeting, cast your vote, and share your ideas.

We look forward to seeing you Thursday!
